April 4, 2011. Each Halloween, my daughter enjoys carving pumpkins. I planted a bowlful of the seeds in the backyard In Ocotber 2010, and this is what has come up.

Unfortunately, there is no water in this part of the yard. So I scooped up some of the seedlings and planted them next to the raised bed, as seen in the next picture.
In this picture, you can see the pumpkin seedlings next to the garden. I knew they would get water here, because the water leaks under the blocks. Also in this picture can be seen the cherry tomatoes growing well, and some marigolds that I planted as directed by my companion planting book. Also, here can be seen the shredded paper I used for mulch, despite much laughter from other gardeners.

I had so many pumpkin seedlings, that I relented and stuck a few in the bed. You can just see them crammed into the corner by the elbow of the irrigation. After all, how much space could they possibly take up? I could always just direct them back out into the yard, right??
